My name is Beau. I'm a 24 year old PhD student at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas. I have studied math all through my college career (BS and MS in Applied Mathematics), so I'm kind of a big nerd. I am currently in the process of joining the Peace Corps. My Peace Corps Timeline is to the right. I would love to teach high school math somewhere in Africa. Hopefully I will be in Africa in six or seven short months.
This is my first blog. I'm not usually a blogger, but I think I need to start getting use to it if I'm going to be in Africa for a while. I have a big test tomorrow, so I will end this now.
As Peace Corps updates come up, I will post them.

*November 15, 2008 -- Completed Online Application
*December 18, 2008 -- Interviewed with PC Recruiter in Dallas.
*December 18, 2008 -- Received Nomination for Education Program in Subsaharan region of Africa. Tentative Departure in November 2009
*December 22, 2008 -- Received Medical Kit
*March 19, 2009 -- Peace Corps Received Completed Medical Kit
*March 23, 2009 -- Received Dental and Legal Clearance
*April 8, 2009 -- Received email: "Medical Complete: A decision has been reached regarding your medical review. Please look for a letter in the mail."
*April 27, 2009 -- Received email from medical assistant. Received total clearance. Now I just wait for placement.
*August 4, 2009 -- Received invitation to serve in the Secondary Education Program in Kenya.
*August 12, 2009 -- Officially accepted invitation. Now I'm an official Peace Corps Volunteer Trainee
*November 2, 2009 -- Fly to Philly for staging. Meet the other 24 volunteers in my training class.
*November 3, 2009 -- Leave Philly on a bus for JFK International Airport. Fly to Zurich.
*November 4, 2009 -- Fly from Zurich to Nairobi. Arrive at AFRALTI for our initial in-country briefing.
*November 7, 2009 -- Travel to Loitokitok to begin our Pre-Service Training
*November 8, 2009 -- Meet host families
*December 25, 2009 -- Slaughter a goat for Christmas
*January 3, 2010 -- Travel back to Nairobi to meet supervisors.
*January 6, 2010 -- Swear-in Ceremony at US Ambassador's house. Now an official Peace Corps Volunteer.
*January 7, 2010 -- Travel to Kilifi
*January 11, 2010 -- First day of teaching as a Peace Corps Volunteers
